Alpha Kappa Lambda - Beta Nu Chapter at VCU

COMMUNITUY SERVICE & PHILANTHROPY:

National Service Projects

The Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda believes that each chapter should contribute to and assist in the betterment of their local and campus communities.  The Fraternity was founded with the belief in "service to university, country, and humanity."  That commitment to service remains alive and well today.  Through local and national service projects, Alpha Kappa Lambda reaches out to touch the lives of people in need.

THESE HANDS DON'T HURT:

Alpha Kappa Lambda's national philanthropy, These Hands Don't Hurt raises awareness for the victim's domestic violence. Money is raised from students and faculty by the fraternity and donated to Safe Harbor, a shelter for battered women. Donators may then trace and sign the outline of their hand onto an awareness board that is displayed on campus for all to see.

HALLOWEEN WATCH:

A local Beta Nu chapter tradition, Halloween Watch is Alpha Kappa Lambda's annual philanthropy that occurs every Halloween night at Virginia Commonwealth University. Through the months leading up to the holiday, AKL organizes approx. 300+ volunteers to help patrol the streets of Richmond, VA. These volunteers help to ensure the safety of trick-or-treaters and assist local authorities in locating missing children. Donations are collected from local businesses to help fund the event, and all proceeds go to assist victims of domestic violence.
